•••I listened to the Audible Audio Edition of this book•••

Anne Marie Susan Silvey’s performance gets better with every book as she truly gets to know the characters! She brought out April's snark and confused feelings superbly. I think she is doing a great job with this series :) I can't wait to hear what she does next!

Conundrums Abound

This series must be listened to (or read) in order. The first book is Resonant. The second book is Reign of Blood (Reign of Blood #1). This is the third book.

Murphy's Law truly describes the world now... Whatever can go wrong WILL go wrong! April is stuck with her mother Helen who has retreated into agoraphobia and distanced herself from her children and the world to the point of complete introspection and self loathing disinterest. Helen will not even allow April to see to her grooming needs. April does not know what tortures her mother endured at the hands of Christian's Hive but she wishes her mother would snap out of it already! She(April) is just waaay too young to be the mother/teacher/protector/decision-maker for her family of hybrid humans! After all she is just 18!!! The new world order is no order at all with feral Zompires around every corner and more mysteries surfacing every day... Why can't she bring herself to commit to Rye? What is she going to do about her mother Helen? Does she really have a say on the Hive's ruling council or is it just for show to keep her around(she is after all the salvation of the hybrid vampires as she carries the cure to the wasting/rotting disease in her blood)? Will they ever find out what caused this terrible plague of death/undeath? Who or what is mass exterminating the Ferals? Or are they just committing mass suicide?

This book has the romance as a major issue for April to deal with... so I definitely would not consider this in any way a romance novel lol. The thrills and chills are a good spice for all the action and adventure. While the mysteries definitely make you want to yell at April to just mind her own business and stay in her quasi safe world instead of poking at every little thing that is new or different or confusing! I felt like the kid in the theater yelling at the girl on the screen "don't do it!" Alot of the time reading this book. The humor is present throughout even if it is of a Much darker flavor this time around :) I really enjoyed this book and can not wait to listen to the next one Amplified (Reign of Blood #3) or maybe Elijah (The Miel Chronicles) (A Reign of Blood Series Companion) the companion novella! I havent decided which yet ... But whichever I read I know it will be Awesome :)

***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult listeners (or readers) who enjoy post apocalytal horror adventure survival coming of age stories with a bit of romance and loads of suspense :)

Wen Ross and Kai Kennicott have brought get another story to amazing life! I really enjoy the way they play off each other and make each and every character unique! And I adore the way they stay true to each character's original persona and voice from book to book. It is an amazing feat of their talents to stay so consistent after what I have to believe has to be quite a while between projects! Bravo :)

The Don & The Kindergarden Teacher?

This series must be listened to (or read) in order. The first book is Should've Known Better. This is the second book. I can't wait to listen to Scorin' on the Fourth of July!

Finding out he has been "volunteered" to participate in an early intervention reading program kind of annoys Rob. What about him says "reading to little kids sounds fun" ?! There is no getting out of it though so he decides not to fight the inevitable. Arriving at the school and having the most gorgeous woman snarling at him and being all Mama Bear over her charges though? That is intriguing! He is drawn to her like he never has been to any other woman EVER... So he decides to make the most of his time at the school. Who knows, maybe he can impress her and she just might agree to go on a date with him! Can he win Elena over? Will she ever agree to go out on a date with him? Will she ever take him seriously? Or will he always be the rich entitled pro athlete bad boy in her eyes?

Elena believes wholeheartedly that reading is important for her student. She doesn't see how pro athletes could possibly help her kids to learn to read better. How can this possibly be a good idea?! And why is she so drawn to the one who is there to read to her class? Why does he seem interested? How could a gorgeous man like him even be remotely interested in a frumpy school teacher like her? Is she just some new conquest for him? Or should she give him a real chance?

Review: The Damned

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Haunted By The Past

This series must be read in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to read Path To Damnation!

•••I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review•••

Tuck is a Slayer. One of the best. Most fear her. With a nickname like The Ripper it is with good cause. She is a legend and very well respected, even at her young age. Haunted by mistakes from her past and the loss of her best friends there are certain Damned no other Slayer would dare touch... At least not without her permission. Finding Josef again seems too good to be true... Especially since something is odd about the way everything is connecting. Is this a trap? Is she being set up? Will she finally get the chance to avenge her friends? Or will her list for revenge cloud her judgement and lead her to an early death? Can she trust in herself and her allies to end this vendetta once and for all?

This is an unusual and unique vampire series with many different types and classes of vampires. The three main kinds are Strigoi (you must be born to them or at least have their blood in your bloodline to become one) which are the oldest and most powerful. The Vampyr who can be born or made but are immune to the sun and live mostly peaceful lives. Both of these types are at least loosely aligned with the Slayers as allies or at least not enemies. The Damned on the other hand are dark and evil due to their killing to feed and are destroyed by sunlight and silver. The Damned are evil and mostly mad. They are the natural enemies of the Slayers and reviled by the other two Vampire breeds. Humans are, of course, completely oblivious to all of this and live on in blissful ignorance.

This series must be read in order. The first book is Court Of Nightfall. The second book is House Of Ravens. This is the third book. I can't wait to read Song Of Kai!

Zorin is full of secrets he must keep in order to continue. If everyone truly knew who he was... His past... They would be likely to turn on him. Or so he feels. Will he repeat the mistakes of the past? Or has he learned his lesson? Is Scarlett another woman he will fail as he failed Danika so long ago? What exactly does he feel for her?

This story is set throughout the last book House Of Ravens and tells the events from Zorin's point of view. It shows what he was up to when not in Scarlett's presence and enlightens us to some of his motivations. It is an amazing addition to the series and I really enjoyed it :)

Bound By Her Word

This series must be read in order. The first book is Boundary Crossed. This is the second book. I can't wait to read Boundary Born!

Lex is a girl who keeps her promises. Even when she would rather not. She is trying to learn control and use of her magic even though noone knows much about it. She is the only Boundary Witch in apparent evidence. The Pellars try to help her (at least her best friends Simon&Lilly) but even their knowledge is guesswork and abstract theory. She is trying to keep Charlie safe. Maven has promised that as long as she works for her then Charlie WILL be safe. It is the least she can do for her murdered twin sister and her first love John. Too bad some of the cops have it out for her. Too bad most of the Witches of Clan Pellar loathe and abhor her. Otherwise her life might be looking up. She might start to feel like she belongs. Will the other Witches ever see her for her instead of the "evil" supposedly carried in her blood? Will she ever learn how to use her powers enough to become a force to be reckoned with? Will Maven keep her promises and protect Charlie over anything and everything? Why is everyone from the Old World so inexplicably on edge? What is making everyone in Denver's magic go haywire? What happened to the missing Vampires? And what exactly is going on between her and Quinn? Is her sister really speaking to her from beyond the veil or is her magic slowly driving her insane?

•••I listened to the Audible Audio Edition of this book•••

Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross ’s performances are always stellar. This book was way more intense than most of the books I have listened to by them, but I am pretty sure that has something to do with the serious nature of some of the subject matter. I wish there were After School Specials like this when I was growing up! It was amazing and uplifting even when the worst things happened, due in a large part, to the true emotions conveyed by both actors as well as the great writing of the characters. I truly believe this book would not have been something I would have enjoyed even half as much without their performance. I hope the continue on in the series as they are a perfect fit!

Secrets Hidden In The Past Surface

This series must be read in order. The first book is The Withering Palace. The second book is Evangeline. The third book is Ever Shade. The fourth book is Ever Fire. The fifth book is Ever Winter. The sixth book is The Cursed. The seventh book is Ever Wrath. This is the eighth book. It is also considered to be the first book in a spin-off series. I can't wait to read Ever Dead!

It came as a shock to Benton that he was born into a family of powerful Elementals. Studying his family's varied history has only made him more curious about how many others like him are out there in the world. If Elementals are such an old race (like Faeries) why has he never met one? What happened to all the other Elemental families? Are they the last ones left? Will he be able to keep his family, small as it is now, safe from whatever dark forces that hunted them in the past? From the Unseelie? Will he ever feel like he belongs anywhere? Or will he always be the consummate outsider?

This is Benton's story, from his point of view. It explains his take on everything that has happened since his mother regained her memories pretty much. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read more! I never realized how amazing a character Benton is.

***NOT for the homophobic, closedminded, or humor challenged!!!***

This series must be read in order. The first book is Mother's Day Out. This is the second book. I can't wait to read the next one!

Complicated doesn't even BEGIN to describe Margie's life. Her cheating husband is gay and still in denial. Her daughter thinks she is a dog named Fifi and even bit a classmate last year. At least she has her job as a PI to keep her occupied! After solving the murder of the transvestite her husband was screwing behind her back And clearing her name how hard could it possibly be to retrieve a pregnant pig that her client's ex pignapped? Is there something sinister going on behind the scenes at Holy Oaks? Will Elsie be able to thrive there? Or will it be a disaster of epic proportions? One thing is for certain... Nothing good ever came from a late night phone call from Peaches!

Filled with wry humor and sarcastic wit this mystery series is always good for a lot of laughs! How Margie deals with the satirical characters of her husband and in-laws always gives me hope that maybe one day they will morph into real people and shed the horror that is their bigoted closedminded mindset :) But then where is the humor in that?

But her marriage seems to have hit a bit of a slump and there is NO WAY she is taking out a home loan just to pay for preschool! That only leaves her with one viable option... Find a job. Since she hasn't worked in ages her old boss will not rehire her especially now that she has *gasp* children so that just leaves the want ads. The Seer Detective And His Erstwhile Assistant

This series must be read in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to read The Map!

Abigail Rook has always longed for adventure. Her archaeologist father raised her on stories of discoveries made during grand adventures filled with action all the while forcing her to stay home and be a "proper" girl. When she is meant to go off to college Abigail instead absconds with her University tuition and a badly packed bag off to Ukraine to work on an archaeological dig that turns out to be a bitter disappointment. Eventually she boards a steamer to the New World and ends up in New England with few to no prospects, no money and no idea how to change her luck... But one thing is certain she is not ready to give up on adventure yet! She will find a job it it kills her... No way she is going home to the Marriage Mart and relinquishing her dreams to the staid existence of a matron with brats to look after! Will she fail to find proper lodgings and a job? Will she have to end her adventures and slink back home with her tale between her legs? Or will she at last find some marvelous adventure to bring her all mysteries and action she has always desired?

Enter Jackaby... He is a strange man with an odd reputation largely avoided by womenfolk and police equally. He intrigues and yet disturbs Abigail when they have a chance meeting. Others have not fared well in his employ but yet he still searches for an assistant because his calling is too important to be neglected and while he sees loads of supernatural things the mundane truly escapes him almost entirely. Without a proper assistant he misses vital clues that would help him solve case quickly and with less catastrophic consequences for all involved. He tries to dissuade Ms. Rook when she applies for the position aw his assistant and manages to just intrigue her more. Will she survive working for him? Or will she meet some tragic Fate like all his past assistants? How will they survive this immensely complicated case?

This book was an amazing historical supernatural mystery full of plot twists and unexpected revelations! I loved the absent minded Jackaby and the hyper attentive Ms. Abigail Rook... They really complemented each other and made a superb team. The fact that this was so go shocked and pleased me. It is an amazing debut and I cannot wait to read the next installment!

Review: Sherlock Holmes and the Red Demon

Sherlock Holmes and the Red Demon Sherlock Holmes and the Red Demon by Larry Millett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

•••I listened to the Audible Audio Edition of this book•••

Steve Hendrickson’s performance was incredibly engaging. It showed Watson's pique with Holmes in a very expressive manner as well as Holmes' brusque mein when dealing with things he found to be self evident. Their snarky and contentious relationship is what has always (in my mind) made them an excellent investigative duo. All the characters were well acted and I can't wait to listen to more offerings by this talented voice actor!

Holmes And Watson In Minnesota?

This series must be listened to (or read) in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to listen to Sherlock Holmes and the Ice Palace Murders: From the American Chronicles of John H. Watson, M.D. !

Even though this book starts with a foreword claiming this is a historical account of how events happened and who they happened to, this is not true. It is a ploy by the author to engage the reader wholy in a book that is truly a work of fiction. While this practice does annoy me the afterword clearly states this is a work of fiction, thus redeeming the author in my eyes for his attempt at deception.

Years after the death of Moriarty and the apparent death of Holmes is when this mystery starts. No longer fearing his enemies, Holmes has rejoined Watson and the land of the living. A knock on the door leads them to entertain an agent of a certain Mr. Hill who happens to be quite famous in his own right. Holmes and Watson are intrigued so they take on the case of ferreting out the identify and true intentions of the Red Demon menacing the railroad. Will they be able to discover the plot and thwart it before it is carried out? Is the Red Demon a genius, a madman, or both? What does he hope to accomplish with his threats and dastardly acts?

***This series is suitable for young adult through adult listeners (or readers) who enjoy classic Sherlock Holmes as well as suspenseful murder mystery thrillers with a good amount of horror and intrigue :)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Moving Too Fast?

This series must be read in order. The first book is Getting Out of Hand. The second book is Getting Worked Up. The third book is Getting Dirty. The fourth book is Getting In the Spirit. This is the fifth book.

Levi wants Kate to ask him to move to San Francisco to be with her... Only he wants it to be HER idea. So he sets out to keep her from seeing his love for Sapphire Falls ... Only Levi would think this could work! Will his plan be successful? Or will it blow up in his face?

Kate loves Levi and Sapphire Falls so much that she has quit her job and is about to let her lease end in San Francisco just so she can live in the town that stole her heart with the man who stole it more completely... The only problem is she can never find the proper time to spill her guts! Why is Levi trying to make her hate Sapphire Falls? Does he not want her here?

A true comedy of errors that keeps you guessing what will happen next! Nicholas just keeps getting better and better the more she writes! I can't wait for the next book in this series!!! Heck I can't wait for whatever she writes next! I am a proud addict to her stellar writing hehe :)

A Case Of Mistaken Identity

This series must be read in order. The first book is Getting Out of Hand: Sapphire Falls book one. The second book is Getting Worked Up: Sapphire Falls book two. The third book is Getting Dirty: Sapphire Falls book three. Or you could get all three books together in the box set Sapphire Falls Boxed Set. This is the fourth book.

Levi NEEDS to change! His brother did in Sapphire Falls so maybe he can too... His near brush with Death has him fearing Christmas Ghosts and his current lifestyle so he decides to change location and learn the charms of small town girls who will keep him honest and never put up with the guy he's trying to learn not to be. Joe gives him their spare room and sets him up with the mayor... What could possibly go wrong? Will he be able to relate to a wholesome small town girl? Or will he run screaming back to his old life in spite of his good intentions?

In Kate's family Christmas is ignored completely. Her grandparents died in a horrific car crash that day and her mother deals by refusing to admit the holiday still exists by spending it in Hawaii away from any other people other than family. Add to that three horrendous Christmases in a row while she was trying to make her own happy memories and the men she was dating completely ruined them. Kate has decided no Christmas ever! But Phoebe is her friend and she's not having it! So Phoebe convinces Kate to come to Sapphire Falls and do Christmas right! Complete with a place to stay and a local date to the Winter Formal! Sounds perfect... If only her husband Joe hadn't already lent their spare room to his brother Levi (which she is entirely clueless about)... Who will get the room?

This book is a great addition to the series! I LOVED it! It was great to experience another holiday in this magical place Erin has created! I'd be really happy if she would go back and write the story of Nadia and Matt around some other holiday like Halloween just to see what she comes up with for my favorite holiday! Her Christmas makes me want to actually like my least favorite (read hated) holiday after all! I now cannot imagine Sapphire Falls without Kate and Levi.... And I will never ever look at candy canes the same way again!!! I hope you enjoy this fun and flirty sweet holiday treat from Ms. Nicholas as much as I have!!!! I can't wait for more of this awesome series :D

***This series is suitable for adult romance addicts who enjoy lots of fun and flirty with their plot driven sex scenes (and loads of holiday spirit in this instance)

From The Horror And Ashes Of The Past Emerges A New Monster

This series must be read in order. The first book is Ashen Rayne. This is the second book. I can't wait to read the next one!

Smoak has Blaze and that makes her happier than she has ever been. Even with Ariana she wasn't this happy... But true love comes with a steep price. If anything ever happened to Blaze she would cease to be anything but a cold blooded killer bent on vengeance and revenge. Haunted by the past and pain of losses and almost losses it seems like every day is a fierce struggle. Finding out Ari's daughter has been taken with two of her friends leaves Ash and Smoak in a frenzied search for the girls and the monsters who took them. Who is behind the kidnapping? Is it just new human traffickers? Or something far more sinister reaching up from the past? Isn't it odd that a girl so close to them would become a victim so soon after they stopped the last human trafficking ring permanently?

Set in both the past and the present, this book weaves together seemingly unconnected events to create an enthralling tapestry that pulls together the big picture in the most shocking and mesmerizing manner possible. From the ashes and horror of a mission gone wrong to the glittering beauty that disguises the dark underbelly of Miami there is not a boring moment to be found in this intense and suspenseful story of modern superheroes filled with sinister mysteries and enough action and adventure to keep you always on the edge of your seat! You never know what will happen next... Only that giving up is never an option!

Laurel Schroeder’s performance was very evocative and enthralling. She conveyed a wealth of emotion that I would have missed had I just read the book. I loved the way she fleshed out the characters and gave them each their own unique voice. I will definitely be looking for more books narrated by this talented voice actress!

Who IS Good Sam Really?

This seems to be a stand alone novel.

Kate is a reporter and a senator's daughter. This has led her to always look for the truth and motivations behind anything and everything. Covering breaking news is her job... But also her passion. She wants to find the good in people if it is actually there. Unfortunately most of the time what she witnesses and reports on is tragic with no silver lining. When first assigned to the story of "Good Sam" she is annoyed and feels like she is being punished. That quickly turns into curiosity and intrigue as she delves deeper into the story. Why is someone leaving $100k in canvas bags with a sideways 8 staped on the side anonymously on people's porches? What does the 8 signify? How are these people connected? Or is it all random? Will she ever get to the bottom of this story? Will she be sorry if she does?

Time Travel And Other Magickal Mishaps

This series must be read in order. The first book is Witchwood Estate-Going Home. The second book is Witchwood Estate-Ferntree Falls. The third book is Cursed. The fourth book is Timeless. I can't wait to read the next book!

Alexandria has been learning to cope with alot. Knowing her cousin Kat ran off into the past with a Musketeer should make her furious... But Kat is Kat. A bit self-centered and self-involved but for them most part a good person. Nina, the vampire witch hybrid takes some getting used to but seems a good sort to have as a friend. Alexandria, at least, likes her and is happy to have her around. Will Kat come back? Will they find out who is behind all the young witches deaths in and around Ferntree Falls? Or will one of them fall victim next? How can there be so many sinister forces in such a small place like Ferntree Falls?

Filled with magick and mayhem this episode brings the search for the villain to an almost fever pitch. Learning some of Nina's backstory was a real treat and I can't wait for more! I wish more series were like this one :)

Into The Woods...

This series must be read in order. The first book is Witchwood Estate-Going Home. The second book is Witchwood Estate-Ferntree Falls. The third book is Cursed. This is the fourth book.

Alexandria finally has some semblance of guidance in the form of her aunt Mindy who is there to help her transition into her new life as head of all the white witches.Mindy is a great help to the girls and Andrew even if she acts more like a cool big sister than a guardian aunt :) Mayhem and mystery ensue as the plot reveals itself little by little. Who are the Bloodthorn witches and what exactly are they up to? Can anyone truly be trusted? Where will the next threat come from?

This series, though filled with short books, amazes me with it's complexity. I am drawn into Alexandria's world quickly and I never want to leave! Each book is more engrossing than the last leading you deeper and deeper into the complex mysteries surrounding the Harvey family and the death of it's last leader. I will be waiting impatiently for the next book Witches Bitches to come out!

The Story Unfolds

This short story series MUST be read in order. The first book is Witchwood Estate-Going Home. The second book is Witchwood Estate-Ferntree Falls. This is the third book.

This book begins to explain some of the mysteries surrounding the death of Alexandria's parents and the curse on Andrew. Kat becomes a more major character assuming the role of Alexandria's best friend and River is finally known to Alexandria as something other than a white wolf. The mysteries only deepen as time goes on. Will they ever figure out how to uncurse Andrew? Will Kat and Alexandria fight over River? Will the mystery of Alexandria's parents' murder ever be solved? What happened to River's mother? And who is Bram .... Is he part of the problem or the solution?

I have not been able to put this series down since I started it! I am flat out addicted to the mystery and fun. Most series would hit low points but this one never does :) Just when you think you know what's happening the word shifts and you are completely perplexed again... It's awesome! The fantasy isn't even trying too hard ... It is just an every day thing for the characters which lends an extra layer of realism to the books. I will be starting the next book Timeless as soon as I am done with my review!!!

Further Down The Path...

This series must be read in order. The first book is Witchwood Estate-Going Home. This is the second book.

Alexandria has finally made it home and boy has it changed! But then I guess 12 years will do that... The town still has all its colonial charm and old-fashioned buildings but new buildings and danger lurk around unseen corners. Is Alexandria up for the homecoming she has been waiting for all her life or will she find she is in over her head?

I really don't want to say too much so as to not give away any surprises in the plot line... just let me say this book is full of enough suspense and supernatural elements to make up for it's episodic nature! I really enjoyed it and can not wait to read the next episode Cursed!!!

Childhood's End .... The Journey Begins

This series must be read in order. This is the first book.

This story has loads of flashbacks to help you understand how Alexandria grew up and why she must leave her new home behind and go back to her ancestral estate. The writing is evocative and imaginative and though set in small towns it is on par with many urban fantasy series as well as urban paranormal series. Even though this is a novelette or short story series I truly enjoyed it!

The world contained within this short book series is amazing and visceral. I would recommend it to anyone who reads modern fantasy or paranormal mystery.
