Review: Chiaroscuro: The Mouse and the Candle

Chiaroscuro: The Mouse and the Candle Chiaroscuro: The Mouse and the Candle by Matthew S. Cox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Degrees Of Evil

This is a stand alone novel as far as I can tell. I don't see how there could possibly be a sequel!

Antonio is a priest in the Order. He is charged by Rome to stamp out Evil wherever it is found. Any supernatural force plaguing humanity is rooted out and destroyed by the Order. After an Exorcism takes a strange turn two priests approach Father Antonio to help them deal with a strange Vampire. Finding an innocent seeming child who is afflicted with Vampirism and yet unhurt by Holy Water or Crucifixes is truly a conundrum. All he knows is that he must protect the child at all costs. That is what God wants or he wouldn't be there! Can he convince the other priests to release Sabine into his care? Or will their zealotry make them turn on him for trying to protect the girl? Can he win her free? Or will he be forced to witness an atrocity he will never recover from?

***This book is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers who enjoy a little whimsy in their supernatural horror fantasy with plenty of suspense, action, adventure and mystery :)

Review: Elijah

Elijah Elijah by J.T. Lewis
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Judging Elijah

This is a companion book to the Reign Of Blood series and can be read anytime after Disarming. It is divergent to the parent series in many ways and only deals with the Reign Of Blood world and the character Elijah.

Miel is tasked by the Archangel Rashnu to find extenuating circumstances in order to redeem souls who have committed grievous sins. They must feel remorse and repent. They must have tried to do good to make up for their transgressions. It seems like an almost lost cause trying to find a redeemable soul after the effect of the zombie vampire plague have taken over the world. Will she be able to find even one person worth saving in this world gone mad? Or will she be forced to report a failure of epic proportions? How could this have happened? Will the world ever be safe again?

The third book is Enmity. This is the fourth (and hopefully NOT final) book. I hope the author writes more!

Lily is fighting for her rights. Not least of all her right to an existence within her own body. Her ancestress Malia is inside her body (through some sort of magic reincarnation) and wishes for it to be hers so she can exact her vengeance. Grayson also wishes to use Lily to both awaken the KelHan pack trapped as stone statues and as the vessel of his beloved little sister Malia. Can she keep Malia from overpowering her and taking over her body for good? Can she prevent Grayson from slaughtering all the people she loves? Will she be able to resist doing what they want? Or is she truly lost and about to become just a memory as Malia swallows her soul and takes up true residence in their body instead of just dwelling within? Can Lily be strong enough to thwart all her foes and survive?

Cursed Bloodline

This series must be read in order. The first book is Ardent. Wolf Romp may be read anytime after Ardent. This is the second book. I can't wait to read Enmity to discover the next new twist in this amazing series!
